Zookeeper Camp

Welcome to Schoolhouse Safari’s Zookeeper Camp! We are offering a three-day summer camp to any child from ages 8 to 13 years old. The camp will be held at Palmetto State Park (19501 Pleasant Dr, Abbeville, LA 70510) on July 10th, 11th, and 12th. The fee is $200 per child due at the time of online registration. (Refund available until July 1st). Included in the price is an amazing hands-on learning experience with many different animals, a t-shirt given on the last day of camp, lunch and 2 snacks provided each day, many projects to take home daily, and many extra surprises for campers.

There is a 25 camper limit so grab your spot quickly!
Space is intentionally limited to enhance each campers hands-on experience.

Our goal is to teach your child many things about native and non-native species that walk/fly/swim on our Earth and how we can protect them so that our future generations will also be able to experience them too! Campers will get a hands-on approach to learning about many different species of animals, their diet and native habitat, and a better understanding of their importance in the world. All of the animals that are attending our camp are our own pets and used as animal ambassadors for their species. They are all completely used to people and being handled on a daily basis. All of our Animal Handlers are trained professionals and handle and care for said animals daily.

FAQ:

Am I able to stay with my camper for the duration of the camp day/s? While we would love to have parental involvement, this is an opportunity for your child to learn so much about our planet, distraction-free. For this reason, we cannot allow parents or guardians to stay with campers during the camp day. Feel free to book an overnight cabin with Palmetto State Park.

What does my camper need to wear each day? Campers should dress in sturdy clothing that is appropriate for the weather. We recommend that campers wear clothing that can get wet or dirty. Campers must also wear closed-toe shoes that are comfortable for walking. We ask that all campers come to camp with sunscreen and bug spray. Campers MUST wear their Camp shirt on the last day of camp (given on Friday morning.) Cell phones are allowed. Campers are expected to make friends, but we do ask that cell phones be put away during activities. Thursday afternoon, campers will be able to play in the park's Splash Pad, so we ask that members bring an appropriate bathing suit to wear under their day clothes or change into before we go to the pad. Camp Staff will be supervising at all times.

It is extremely important for each camper to bring a reusable water bottle every day!

WHAT WILL MY CHILD DO ALL DAY AT CAMP?

Your child will be introduced to the world of animals and science through hands-on experiences, Zoo-themed investigations and up-close animal encounters. Camp programs are designed for the specified age group and include thematic games and activities, art experiences, group and independent projects, and a fun time. Since your camper doesn't tell you everything, we'll also have a parent and camper orientation after registration on the first morning of camp (see Schedule) to meet the Animal Handlers, discuss the focus of the camp, what you can expect your camper to experience, a few animals they will met, and to ask some questions we are more than happy to answer!

SHARING TIME: Parents/guardians are invited to join us at camp between 3:30-6:00pm on Friday afternoon to share what the campers have learned and to meet your camper’s new friends. Sharing Time begins promptly at 4:00pm. Parents who plan to attend should meet at the meeting facility between 3:30-3:55pm. If not attending, pick-up time will be between 6:00 and 7:00pm.
